Bio

Tomás has published books and articles on film and media. Together with Javier Campo, Clara Garabelli, Pablo Piedras, and Kristi M. Wilson, he organized the Visible Evidence Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2016. He is an Associate Producer of ITVS/Indie Lens Pop-Up and POV and has been coordinating SUA Community Cinema, a documentary film series, for the last ten years.

Before coming to SUA, Tomás taught at the University of San Francisco, where he co-founded the film collective Cine Campesino and made two documentaries in Honduras (2002-2004). He then received a Fellowship in the Humanities at Stanford University, California, where he taught and did research on the role of cinema in the investigation of crimes against humanity.

Tomás studied journalism and film at San Francisco State University (SFSU), where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990. He continued his studies at SFSU where he received a master’s degree in Comparative Literature. Shortly after, he entered the Spanish and Portuguese doctoral program at the University of California, Irvine and received his PhD in 2001.

He has studied scriptwriting, lighting and direction at the San Francisco Film Arts. Tomás was born in Buenos Aires and has been living in California since 1986.
